Avey Tare from his solo tour

For this performance piece I got all dressed up, and then put myself underneath a door mat in a public space to be trodden upon.
When a person would step on me, my only response would be to meekly say, “Thank You.”

Upon viewing me on the floor, some stared, some laughed, some tried to help, some ridiculed me, some thought to help me, some photographed me, and some just stepped on me and walked on. 

The concept behind the piece is one I am still trying to find the proper words to express; essentially the piece is meant to represent the submission of women throughout history, and the welcoming of more.
